I was dead, I came alive by Jalaluddin Rumi

I was dead, I came alive

Jalaluddin Rumi

I was dead

I came alive

I once wept

Now I smile

You have lit the fire

I have come alive

Lift me ever higher

I have come alive

I was sane

You drove me mad

You put chains

On my hands

You have lit the fire

I have come alive

Lift me ever higher

I have come alive

I was dead, I came alive

I once wept, now I smile

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

I was dead, I came alive

I once wept, now I smile

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

My eyes are full

My soul is bold

I have the heart of a lion

I am as bright as the morning star

Love said: ‘You are not mad with love,

You must leave this house.”

I was sane, you drove me mad

You put chains on my hands

I was dead, I came alive

I once wept, now I smile

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

I was dead, I came alive

I once wept, now I smile

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

My eyes are full

My soul is bold

I have the heart of a lion

I am as bright as the morning star

Love said: “You are not mad with love,

You must leave this house.”

I was sane

You drove me mad

You put chains on my hands

Love said: “You are not drunk with love,

You do not belong at this gathering.”

Full of joy,

I went and became drunk

And bewildered

Like a fool

I stayed away

Love said: “You have become a candle,

The pole of this assembly.”

Shaykh, I am not

Disciple, I am not

Master, I am not

Neither becoming nor abiding

I am nothing

But a servant to your every word.

I was dead

I came alive

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

Love said, ‘You’re a shaykh and a master.

A guide of lost souls.”

Shaykh, I am not

Master, I am not

I have become a servant of your every word

I came alive and I die with longing

How many times will I live and will I die?

The power of love came to me

Your letter gives thanks

For your boundless sweetness

For it embraced me

And I dwelt in it

My dark earth gives thanks

For the overarching sky

For through its all-seeing gaze

I became able to receive its light

The heavens give thanks

For king and kingdom and angel

Through whose generosity and riches

I became bright and bountiful

The one possessed of wisdom and truth gives thanks

For having attained the goal

Above the seven spiritual planes

I became a shining star

I was Venus, I became the moon

I became the two hundred-fold sky

I was Venus, I became the moon

I became the two hundred-fold sky

I was Joseph

I became the creator of Joseph

Famous moon, I am yours

Look upon me and upon yourself

From the trace of your smile

I became a smiling rose garden

Be like a chess player?

Whose language is silence

Through the king of the world

I have become happy and filled with bliss

I was dead

I came alive

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

I was dead, I came alive

I once wept, now I smile

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power

The power of love came to me

I became that infinite power
